About:

Hello neon.

This piece is inspired by a concept I have been exploring in the cupcake series since 2017, called "Chill Pill." Instead of incorporating elements of cubed pills, I am delving into a different aspect of the subject. But first, let me provide a little background…

As a young child, I was prescribed medication for ADHD, which had a profound impact on my childhood. I experienced the consequences of a suppressed upbringing, as I felt like a different person when I was on medication compared to when I was off it. It was a constant struggle to understand my true identity during my formative years. Hyperactivity became a desperate plea for self-expression. Fast forward to my 30s as an artist, and I am exploring the theme of "Sprinkles Please" as a playful representation of a sugar-coated reality.

The skull is painted in a two-tone scheme, transitioning from fluorescent pink to fluorescent orange, symbolizing the dichotomy of personality traits influenced by medication. The vibrant neon colors are an embrace of the vivacious, curious, and lively existence that I was always meant to live, and now am living. The pills are scattered among the cement froth, resembling toppings on an ice cream sundae. To further emphasize the duality of the two fluorescent colors of the skull, the piece is adorned with a two-tone cherry drip.

Symbolism:

satire, sugar coated reality, bold and bright
