About:
The darkest piece in this collection, ‘Where's Your Head At,’ in Defeat to Picking Up the Pieces, reflects the metaphorical struggles to glow. The sculpture plays with the concept of "picking up the pieces," using the Lilac Blast skull as a vessel to express a landscape of black and neon puzzle pieces.
Personally, it speaks to the challenges of new motherhood and the experience of losing a bit of one's glow while constantly picking up the literal pieces of life and family. However, the satire is that new mothers never lose their glow, just transitioning into a new phase of life.
Another source of inspiration for this piece is the nostalgic color story, drawing from a love for 90's and 80's retro neon aesthetics. It evokes memories of black and white static on TV screens, followed by a neon grid. The evolution from playing with puzzle pieces to metaphorically picking them up in a color story of static noise.
Symbolism:
picking up the pieces, transitions and re-discovering your GLOW
